Money isn't the only thing that's green at Regal Bank.
The Essex County institution - with two offices in Livingston and one in Roseland - has placed an emphasis on environmental, "green" initiatives and projects. It's an ongoing commitment that was illustrated by several recent programs tied to April's "Earth Day" celebration.
At that time, all three of the bank's branches offered a week-long rechargeable battery and paper recycling opportunity for local residents. To participate, community members simply needed to visit any Regal office location, where containers were available to collect used rechargeable batteries and secure bins were offered so household documents and related items could be dropped off in preparation for shredding and recycling.
"At Regal Bank, we've worked hard to implement "green" practices into our everyday banking operations," explains David Orbach, Regal Bank chairman. "We're committed to doing far more than just paying lip-service to concern for the environment. We've built a focus on sustainability into most things we do."
As an example, Regal Bank offers electronic services that reduce the need to use paper during basic banking transactions, while the online bill paying feature enables customers to extend this paperless option to other companies' documents and invoices as well. Regal also encourages the use of its ATM machines for deposits and withdrawals, thus eliminating the need for many additional paper slips. Further, by using debit cards, customers may forego the use of checks in favor of simply swiping their cards.
Another Regal Bank initiative was a recent collection of cell phones, under the "Cell Phones for Soldiers" program (www.CellPhonesForSoldiers.com).
"Customers simply dropped off their unwanted mobile phones at any of our locations," explains Anna Pedreiras, manager of Regal's new Roseland branch. "Instead of these devices ending up in landfills, we forwarded them to Cell Phones for Soldiers, which coordinated their recycling. And the funds paid by the recycler for the old phones were used to purchase calling cards for U.S. troops serving overseas. It's so easy, and the benefits are huge."
Regal's three office locations are 570 Mount Pleasant Avenue (headquarters) and 504 South Livingston Avenue in Livingston, and at 180 Eagle Rock Avenue in Roseland. The bank's primary emphasis is on a complete range of financial products and services, offered primarily throughout Essex and Hudson counties
